Honys Torres in UNITED ART ZÜRICH 2021

Solo Exhibition at UNITED ART ZÜRICH 2021**

As part of the UNITED ART ZÜRICH 2021 program, Venezuelan artist Honys Torres presented her solo exhibition “Arroz con Mango”, a vibrant fusion of painting, installation, and pop culture. The show was featured within the weekly exhibition cycle organized by Joss Toledo Art Studio, which brought together a diverse group of artists from September to November 2021 in Zurich.

From September 27 to October 3, the entire exhibition space was dedicated to the work of Honys Torres, who transformed the gallery into a Neo Pop universe saturated with color, humor, and cultural references. Her presentation included large‑format works as well as an immersive installation that captured the irreverent and critical spirit of her artistic language.

“Arroz con Mango”: chaos, identity, and pop culture

The title of the exhibition —a Venezuelan expression referring to a wild mix or unexpected combination— serves as an aesthetic manifesto. In this show, Honys Torres embraced that mix to its fullest:

  • iconic pop culture characters,

  • symbols of contemporary consumerism,

  • references to childhood television,

  • layers of graffiti, humor, and critique,

  • and an explosive chromatic palette.

The central installation brought all these elements together: a composition of artworks, objects, and visual fragments that interacted like pieces of a single, chaotic, and delicious narrative. Visitors entered a space where saturation wasn’t noise — it was language.

An installation that expanded the Neo Pop vocabulary

The installation created for this exhibition acted as a bridge between painting and spatial experience. Honys Torres incorporated:

  • works in multiple formats,

  • three‑dimensional elements,

  • cross‑references between animated characters, brands, and symbols,

  • and a layout that encouraged viewers to explore, discover, and engage.

The result was an immersive environment that turned the gallery into a visual stage, where each piece belonged to a larger ecosystem. The installation reinforced the idea of “Arroz con Mango” as a territory where the absurd, the everyday, and the iconic coexist without hierarchy.
