“Arroz con Mango”: chaos, identity, and pop culture by Honys Torres

“Arroz con Mango”: chaos, identity, and pop culture

The title of the exhibition —a Venezuelan expression referring to a wild mix or unexpected combination— serves as an aesthetic manifesto. In this show, Honys Torres embraced that mix to its fullest:

  • iconic pop culture characters,

  • symbols of contemporary consumerism,

  • references to childhood television,

  • layers of graffiti, humor, and critique,

  • and an explosive chromatic palette.

The central installation brought all these elements together: a composition of artworks, objects, and visual fragments that interacted like pieces of a single, chaotic, and delicious narrative. Visitors entered a space where saturation wasn’t noise — it was language.
